Kim Il Sung
Person
Born
Kim's consolidation linked personal supremacy to the party, security services and the songbun classification of family and political background. Categories of perceived loyalty affected residence, education, employment and access to resources, extending political control into ordinary life. Punishment and exclusion could follow ancestry as well as individual conduct. The classification system explains a form of rule maintained through administration and social sorting, alongside imprisonment and coercion, rather than through the personality cult alone.
