The Simpsons (1989)
TV Show
First aired
Springfield can turn a family squabble into a satire of almost any institution, then return to a surprisingly tender moment at home. At its best, a background sign, a throwaway line and a complete character story all seem to be working at once. The recommendation rests especially on seasons three to eight, where the family and town form an extraordinarily rich comic world. The much longer run is uneven; you need not treat it as homework.
