The Mary Tyler Moore Show (1970)
TV Show
First aired
Mary Richards is capable and considerate, yet the newsroom around her keeps finding ways to make ordinary work awkward. Mary Tyler Moore's reactions anchor an ensemble of bluster, insecurity and vanity, allowing the characters to develop without losing their comic edges. This is a landmark that remains worth watching for its generous, observant workplace comedy. Pick it when you want warmth and sharp character writing to carry an episode together.

About The Mary Tyler Moore Show
30-year-old single Mary Richards moves to Minneapolis to start a new life after a romantic break-up. There she reacquaints with Phyllis who rents her a room, and meets her upstairs neighbor and new best friend Rhoda. Mary unexpectedly lands a job as associate producer at the TV station WJM, where she works alongside her bristly boss, Lou; the comical newswriter, Murray; and the newscast's often-incompetent anchor, Ted.
