Charles Koch
Person
Born
Koch took over leadership of a family oil and refining business in 1967 and helped expand it into a much broader privately held group. Georgia-Pacific added paper and building products, Molex brought electronic components, and Infor supplied enterprise software. These were separate businesses with different customers and economics. The group's reinvestment model helps explain the diversification, while its total sales should never be mistaken for the wealth of one shareholder.
