Fumi Abe

Abe’s Japanese-born, Ohio-raised background complicates the neat cultural introduction an audience might expect. His stand-up and conversations about developing it are useful for seeing how that untidy biography becomes material alongside dating, family and adult indecision. Start with an extended set on his official site, then his Immigrant Jam conversation for the language and childhood context. The attraction is the particular combination of experiences, with a comic voice that has more to discuss than explaining where its owner is from.
