Jim Simons

Jim and Marilyn Simons founded their foundation in 1994, supporting mathematics and basic science through a lasting institution. The Flatiron Institute, launched in 2016, added an in-house centre for computational research to the grant-making model. That combination supports both outside investigators and shared research capabilities. Jim's financial contribution was substantial, but the foundation's development also depended on Marilyn, scientific leadership and the researchers themselves.
