Gordon Moore

Gordon and Betty Moore established their foundation in 2000. Its marine microbiology initiative began in 2004 with support for investigators, research methods and shared resources, and continued through a later funding phase. An external evaluation reviewed what the programme had achieved. This makes it a useful example of patient support for a scientific field, with evidence of grants and review rather than a single ambitious pledge standing in for results.
