Paul Allen
Person
Paul and Jody Allen founded the Allen Institute in 2003, with brain science as its first major focus. The open-access mouse brain atlas made a shared research resource available beyond the institute's own laboratories. Subsequent funding expanded the work rather than ending with that initial product. Paul's later financial commitments should be distinguished from money already transferred, but the operating institute demonstrates that the project developed well beyond an announcement.
