Fred Kavli

Kavli established his foundation in 2000 and supported a network of research institutes through endowments. These arrangements supplied lasting institutional funding in fields including astrophysics, neuroscience and nanoscience, often alongside university support. They are separate from the Kavli Prizes. His remaining estate strengthened the foundation after his death, allowing the funding structure to continue beyond the founder's lifetime and the first round of institute announcements.
