Hugh Laurie

Laurie’s Bertie Wooster is an excellent companion to Stephen Fry’s Jeeves: quick feeling and misplaced confidence keep colliding with apparently effortless competence. A Bit of Fry & Laurie offers another route through his physical and musical comedy. Then try House for the sharpest change in register, with Gregory House’s guarded hostility replacing Bertie’s openness. The common pleasure is precision of reaction. Laurie can let a face, posture or clipped answer expose what the character would prefer to keep under control.
