Jennifer Saunders

Saunders is especially rewarding when a character’s confidence exceeds any visible justification. In French & Saunders, that misplaced certainty can turn a film or celebrity parody into an argument about status between the performers. Absolutely Fabulous extends the instinct through Edina, with Saunders also creating and writing the series. Start there after a few of the duo’s sketches: the difference is how long a comic delusion can sustain a character, allowing the consequences to accumulate rather than disappear at the end of a short scene.
