Lev Yashin

Yashin treated the goalkeeper as an organiser and a starting point for attacks. Team-mates remembered his instructions to defenders, willingness to leave the line and purposeful distribution with his hands. Those qualities extended his influence beyond the save itself. His reputation should not turn every development in goalkeeping into a personal invention, but he provided a powerful early model of an active keeper whose decisions shaped the players in front of him.
