Marilyn Simons

Marilyn and Jim Simons's foundations provided $56.6 million for Stony Brook's Simons STEM Scholars programme, announced in 2022. Its first cohort arrived in 2023, with financial support and preparation for advanced study in science and related fields. Marilyn's own university connection includes degrees in economics and work on mentoring women. The gift supported a pathway with housing, stipends and academic guidance, rather than treating scholarship money alone as a guarantee of future research success.
