The Leftovers (2014)

After a small fraction of humanity vanishes, those remaining search for explanations, rituals and somebody who can make the uncertainty bearable. It offers Pluribus's clash between private grief and collective certainty without the same speculative mechanism. The first season is particularly severe; later changes of setting widen an already emotionally demanding story.
