Deadloch (2023)

Dulcie Collins and Eddie Redcliffe appear to disagree about almost everything, including how an investigation should sound and who deserves patience. Deadloch lets their competing methods become a useful disturbance rather than simply appointing one sensible detective and one comic liability. The Australian mystery is foul-mouthed and darkly funny. Pick it when the gradual discovery of another person's competence is as satisfying as a clue.
