The older touchstone earns its place through the friends, teachers and improvised support system around the person expected to save everybody. The 1997 original starts with accessible monster-of-the-week stories and gradually makes those relationships carry much more complicated consequences. It is a longer commitment, and later material becomes considerably darker. Start for the ensemble rather than expecting the production style of a modern streaming spectacle.
