Rescue Me (2004)

The firefighters in Rescue Me can depend on one another at a call while behaving destructively away from it. Set in the aftermath of 9/11, the series makes grief, addiction and abrasive station humour difficult to separate. It is a much harsher choice than a reassuring account of public-service solidarity. Watch for the tension between operational trust and the damage people fail to recognise in their colleagues.
