Gormenghast (2000)

A vast castle society obeys ceremonies whose purpose has been buried under repetition, while a kitchen boy learns how to exploit its hierarchy. The elaborate sets and grotesque performances make ritual itself feel like a fantastic system. This older four-part adaptation is a deliberate detour for viewers drawn to strange institutions rather than spell battles.
