The Gallows Pole (2023)

An eighteenth-century Yorkshire community approaches counterfeiting through hunger, damaged bodies and the need to make a living. Shane Meadows' loose, sometimes comic conversations make historical figures feel stubbornly present. Its three episodes are a fictionalised prelude around the Cragg Vale Coiners, so expect the gathering of a world rather than a complete account of the eventual criminal enterprise.
