Animals. (2016)

New York's rats, pigeons and other overlooked residents conduct anxious conversations about status, attraction and mortality. Loose, expressive animation lets a recognisable social embarrassment become something animal and absurd. Its three-season run is a less obvious HBO discovery, with improvised-feeling dialogue and plenty of sexual or bodily humour alongside the melancholy.
