24 (2001)

The original American 24 makes the clock an organising device, cutting between people whose actions have to fit inside the same crisis day. Its urgency comes partly from how little room anybody has to absorb the previous development. Choose it for propulsive, highly heightened thriller mechanics rather than plausible professional practice. The series' use of torture and its politics are significant parts of the experience, not incidental period details.
