Strange Empire (2014)

Women attempting to survive in the Alberta-Montana border country confront men who regard protection as a claim to ownership. The Canadian series makes labour and community-building central to its frontier world. Its darker, less familiar perspective is the attraction, with sexual exploitation and a one-season cancellation leaving the larger settlement story open.
