Broadchurch (2013)

A boy's killing in Broadchurch changes the relationships of a seaside town whose residents know each other well enough to have strong assumptions. The investigation exposes the cost of those assumptions for the family and for people suddenly treated as suspects. Pick the first season for a crime story whose emotional unit is the community, not just the detective. It is a serious account of bereavement, with later seasons extending the consequences in different directions.
