Oz (1997)

Oz concentrates competing loyalties inside the experimental Emerald City unit of a maximum-security prison. The architecture gives its confrontations a theatrical clarity while surveillance does little to remove vulnerability. Choose it for a deliberately abrasive older cable drama about people living under official and unofficial systems at once. Sexual violence and other brutal material are prominent, and the heightened narration makes its approach quite different from understated realism.
