Person of Interest (2011)

The early number-of-the-week structure can look like a conventional crime procedural with a surveillance device attached. Try the first season's mid-point, including Number Crunch, for a clearer sense of the relationships and institutional threats accumulating underneath it. The later artificial-intelligence story has roots here, although viewers who dislike weekly rescue cases should know they remain important.
