A Series of Unfortunate Events (2017)

Three resourceful siblings face adults who keep mistaking the appearance of respectability for good intentions. The completed three-season adaptation builds a precise, artificial world around language, disguise and very dark jokes. It is the family-oriented route from Wednesday's pleasure in spotting absurdity, rather than a teenage romance. The children face sustained threat and bereavement beneath the elaborate theatrical presentation.
