Utopia (2013)

The 2013 British original follows people caught around a manuscript and a conspiracy that treats human lives as entries in a larger calculation. Its saturated design and ruthless changes of tone offer a different route into the problem of who gets to define a necessary sacrifice. Two seasons leave important questions open, and graphic violence, including harm to children, makes it exceptionally severe.
