Milton S. Hershey

Hershey's mother arranged his apprenticeship with confectioner Joseph Royer, and intervened when he needed more time learning in the kitchen. He learned to judge ingredients, heat and timing by practice. Early business failures show the limit of that preparation: making good confectionery and managing suppliers, customers and money were skills he had to learn separately.
