John Doulton
Person
Doulton apprenticed at Fulham Pottery and worked as a thrower before becoming a partner in a Lambeth pottery in 1815. Early products included practical stoneware containers. His story makes room for an unglamorous starting market and for partners Martha Jones and John Watts, showing how a trained craftsperson could move into ownership of an existing operation.
