Leigh Whannell repeatedly leaves apparently unnecessary space beside Cecilia, making an empty composition feel like an accusation. Elisabeth Moss's attention and the camera's patience pull against one another. The unseen presence is a precise premise, not vague murk; domestic abuse gives that uncertainty an especially vicious context.
