The unnamed city offers dirty windows, relentless rain and rooms that seem unable to dry out. David Fincher makes working through it feel physically wearing before the crimes supply their own horror. This is the harshest rainy-night option here: the urban mood is compelling, but the murders are deliberately distressing.
