Rebels of the Neon God (1994)

Taipei's scooters, arcades and flooded domestic space give young people somewhere to drift without offering much direction. Tsai Ming-liang lets awkward observation and minor damage accumulate. The city mood is less romantic than Wong Kar-wai's, a good choice when restless company and everyday absurdity sound more useful than glamour.
