Archetype choices and party combinations matter because gaining extra actions rewards a coherent plan against the enemies in front of you. Synthesis attacks make powerful options compete for several characters' contributions, rather than existing as a free extra button. Weak enemies can be handled through field action, reducing some routine command battles. Its time-management structure and long story still ask for a substantial commitment, but the combat keeps party preparation relevant.
