Septerra Core: Legacy of the Creator (1999)

Seven continental layers orbit a planetary core, giving the world's social divisions a literal vertical structure. The journey connects communities with different technologies and interests instead of circling a single royal court. There is an appealingly specific machine-and-myth cosmology underneath the party adventure. Repeated battles and an old interface make this a patient explorer's choice.
