Black Mesa (2020)

The laboratory disaster grows from improvised survival into military battles and unfamiliar territory, with the same spaces gradually becoming harder to trust. Its reworking of Half-Life earns its own recommendation through expanded environments and a much larger Xen section. That final stretch can feel overlong, so this is less compact than the original game's reputation might suggest. The listed game is the standalone remake, with a complete solo campaign rather than a short graphics demonstration.
