Torment: Tides of Numenera (2017)

Spending Effort can improve a task's odds, but success is not the only result the writers have prepared. A failure can reveal a different response or consequence, giving uncertainty a place in the Last Castoff's strange search for identity. The story also treats death differently from an ordinary restart screen. Choose it for substantial reading and an interest in what an unsuccessful approach reveals; some outcomes remain costly or terminal, so the game is not a promise of unrestricted recovery.
