Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door (2024)

The 2024 Switch version makes its chapters and stage battles feel like a succession of comic set pieces. Badges, partner abilities and action-command timing give you practical ways to improve a result before seeking more levels. Ordinary story encounters are the route I recommend, with optional challenge rooms left for later. It still contains backtracking and plenty of combat, so choose it for varied chapters rather than a promise of constant forward motion.
