Recruiting settlers lets the community take over farming, cooking, forestry and other repeat work while you explore or prepare for another boss. Setting up housing, work areas and accessible supplies is the investment that makes those systems useful. You still manage the settlement's needs, and early gathering is manual. Choose it if replacing chores with a functioning little town sounds enjoyable; it is a management project with dangerous expeditions, rather than a game that removes all work at the start.
