The body-swapping premise acquires another complication involving when the two teenagers' experiences occur. Messages, remembered details and objects make that uncertainty emotionally legible before it is fully understood. Makoto Shinkai offers an inviting animated route into temporal longing, with disaster imagery and the fear of losing a connection giving the spectacle weight.
