Mario's Picross (1995)
Game
Released
Numbers around a compact grid carry an entire puzzle, so the screen never needs to represent a large world. Chiselling the correct squares gradually reveals a picture, giving a useful payoff to a short session of deduction. The original Game Boy game is distinct from Mario's Super Picross. Its ordinary puzzles use a countdown and punish incorrect marks with lost time, which can make a small mistaken input surprisingly costly. The clean presentation supports concentration, but it is not an entirely unpressured version of picture logic.
