Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 (1994)

Wario's broad shape, shoulder charge and recognisable hats make his capabilities visible on a small display. Coins and treasure give short stages a reason to be explored instead of merely crossed, while different transformations change what a familiar obstacle means. It feels designed around a readable central character rather than a miniature console spectacle. This is the first Wario Land. Its lives and damage rules differ from later entries, and searching every corner takes more attention than a quick trip to the exit.
