The Ugly Stepsister (2025)
Movie
Released
The labour of becoming beautiful turns Cinderella's social promise into a series of bodily ordeals. Emilie Blichfeldt keeps Elvira's wish to be chosen understandable while making the surrounding market in appearance brutally literal. The 2025 film is a forceful fairy-tale inversion, with extreme self-modification, bodily disgust and a mother who treats suffering as an investment. It is far more punishing than a playful retelling.
