American Psycho (2000)

Mary Harron makes professional status, taste and male self-presentation look like rituals whose participants can barely distinguish one another. Christian Bale's exaggerated precision keeps the satire active even when the violence becomes horrifying. An earlier choice for viewers interested in a monster whose social environment rewards his performance of normality. Sexual violence and cruelty make the comedy exceptionally abrasive.
