A young Frenchman's claim to be a missing American teenager is only the beginning of the uncertainty. Bart Layton sets confident testimony against discrepancies, letting the audience feel how readily a persuasive account can organise what it sees. The interviews are documentary encounters; the atmospheric scenes illustrating the past are reconstructions. That distinction matters especially here, where the pleasure of playing detective should not make an insinuation feel like proof.
