容疑者Xの献身 (Yōgisha X no kenshin) (2005)

The Devotion of Suspect X turns an opening crime into a contest over whether a convincing explanation can withstand scrutiny. The clear central problem makes it absorbing without a huge cast to memorise. Best for a quieter carriage where you can consider the reasoning; the emotional stakes include domestic abuse. Alexander O. Smith translates the English edition.
