The oldest choice earns its place through the modesty of what Rocky initially wants from an extraordinary opportunity. His neighbourhood, awkward courtship and ordinary work make the training feel connected to a whole life. Come for the underdog framework that later films borrow, and stay for the hesitant person inside it.
