The Blind Assassin (2000)
Book
Published
An older woman looks back on a family history that has already acquired public explanations. Atwood's wit and the atmosphere of money, reputation and damage make the slow accumulation absorbing. This is a substantial novel for readers happy to hold uncertainties open. Sexual exploitation, suicide and family cruelty are significant, but the connections are best discovered in the book.
