Tekken 3 (1998)

Sideways movement and readable fighting styles make a duel interesting before you can perform an elaborate combo. Learn a few reliable attacks, practise defending and play another beginner locally: the difference between choosing well and pressing more buttons soon becomes visible. The PS1 version also adds modes beyond the arcade original. This selection is that 1998 console release, not the 1997 arcade record or a later Tekken game. Move lists still reward practice; recognisable characters do not make every match-up obvious.
