The radar, guard routines and small rooms turn infiltration into a readable puzzle, while the staging keeps finding ways to make you question the relationship between player and character. That inventiveness is worth meeting without any attachment to the series. Expect lengthy codec interruptions and controls that need learning. The selection is the 1998 PlayStation game; Master Collection Vol. 1 provides a modern route to it, rather than the different GameCube remake, The Twin Snakes.
