Cuphead (2017)

A boss can preen like a performer before stretching into an entirely different threat. Cagney Carnation's deceptively cheerful presentation is an especially good introduction to that mixture of charm and hostility. Studio MDHR's hand-drawn animation belongs to the fights themselves, so repeated attempts reveal anticipation, recoil and transformations rather than merely replaying a pretty film. You need to enjoy difficult action to spend time with it; watching the personality does not remove the precision the battles require.
